How to Simply Reuse and Resize Boxes

You know when you have a perfectly reusable box, but it's too big to use? Well, you've come to the right place! For my final blog of the year, I wanted to share how I resize boxes so they can be reused.

Since starting Kethstudio 5 years ago, I have tried to reuse as many boxes as I can when I ship orders or client projects. Although using a new and pristine box is very aesthetically pleasing and on brand. It's always good practice to reduce, reuse and recycle since they may all end up in the same place.

Items You Need

If you are a stationer or creative, you may already have all of these items. All you need is the following:

  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Rulers (short and long)
  • Bone Folder

Once you have all the tools ready, grab your box and the item(s) you are planning to put in the box.

Before we begin...

Firstly, put all your item(s) in the box. This is an important first step because you need to know where to mark. Once you're ready, mark it with a pencil and then remove everything in the box.

    1 –– Measure & Mark

Now that you have made your first mark, use your rulers to guide where you're adding additional marks or lines in case your box is a little big. Make sure you do this for all four sides of the box.

    2 –– Score & Cut

Take the bone folder, ruler and score the box on the marks or lines you just created. When all four sides are done, grab your scissors and cut the edge of the box to the score point.

    3 –– Fold & Adjust

You're almost there! Go ahead and fold/crease the areas that you scored on both sides of the box (all four sides). You have now resized a box and are ready to use it. If the newly shaped box has longer cover flaps, then adjust accordingly.

Your box should look like this...

    Before

    and after!

As simply as that, you have resized a box! You can now reuse and resize many more. Do let me know how you get on or have found this useful.
